On June 2, 2016, Parliament of Ukraine adopted the law amending the Constitution of Ukraine (concerning justice). 335 Parliament members voted in favor of this decision. At the same time as voting for constitutional amendments, Parliament also adopted Law No. 4734 (setting out a new version of the Law “On the Judiciary and Status of Judges”. Although the law implements the majority of recommendations by European institutions, experts’ assessments of the adopted changes are mixed. They are seen as both allowing the preservation of the existing judicial system and having the potential to succeed.
