Parliament Adopted the Law Aimed at Ensuring ARMA’s Independence and Effectiveness

On February 18, 2016, Parliament adopted the Law “On Amending Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Relating the Implementation of Recommendations Found in the Sixth European Commission Report on the Status of Ukraine’s Implementation of the Plan of Actions for the European Union’s Visa Regime Liberalization for Ukraine, Concerning the Improvements in Principles of Organization of the National Agency of Ukraine for for Detection, Search, and Management of Assets Received from Corruption and Other Crimes”. This Law amends the Law “On the National Agency of Ukraine for for Detection, Search, and Management of Assets Received from Corruption and Other Crimes”, Civil Code, and Criminal Procedure Code in order to improve the procedurs for ARMA’s management of assets seized as part of criminal proceedings, as well as to strengthen the guarantees of the Agency’s independence and to provide for effective mechanisms for its oversight and accountability. The adoption of this Law was necessary for full-fledges implementation of the Plan of Actions for the Liberalization of Visa Regime between Ukraine and EU.
